| Welcome to SmartNews SubscriberWe are very pleased with our AA Traffic service. Content has been growing over the last few months. We now display around 1,000 current and upcoming incidents and accidents in New Zealand (see http://maps.aa.co.nz/traffic/roadwatch). Our 'Upcoming' events include a lot of Christmas parades and sporting events. This would be a good place to check for your local Christmas events near you. The Free AA Traffic Alert TXT subscriptions on Telecom Mobile and Email subscriptions for AA Members have proven very popular and we are pleased to announce that they will continue until the end of January.
AA Traffic on your car navigationHaving Real Time Traffic on your car navigation unit is becoming very popular. It's changing the way people use car navigation, because AA Traffic can alert your GPS unit about incidents on the road ahead. Even if you know where you are going, you don't know if there is an accident or incident on your way. Of course your navigation will offer you an alternative route, so you can avoid any problem. We expect a new segment of car navigation users to emerge amongst people who previously said they don't need navigation. Navman has some hot Christmas pricing so it is worth shopping around for a deal; there are also special deals for AA Members here. If you buy a new Navman between 1 December 2009 and 31 January 2009 you can get AA Traffic for free by redemption. For details click here.
Route2GO OpimisationThere is always downward pressure for companies to charge less for their goods and services, while at the same time vehicle operational costs, including petrol go up. There are plenty of stories of smaller companies that ended up going out of business or being sold to larger companies that were able to be more competitive. Route optimisation is a set of algorithms which looks at all the stops a vehicle has to make on a journey and calculates the most efficient order to do them in. This can benefit all sorts of businesses such as field service, couriers, meter readers or even a single furniture delivery truck. Software as a service (SaaS) is a concept that allows GeoSmart to give companies access to the solution without having to buy an expensive software package. Payment is transaction based, which means it is suitable for a business as small as a furniture store which delivers to its customers. A small amount of systems integration is required, which can be done by companies already providing applications such as accounting software to the business. As well as coming up with the best order to do work in, it can become a valuable planning tool. Route2GO estimates travel time and distance between each stop. This information could be imported into a tool as common as a spreadsheet. If the user knows how long each stop should take, for example a lounge suite delivery, or the service call on a photocopier might take 15 minutes, then it is possible to estimate the time at which a customer can expect the person to arrive. This then means that it becomes easy to calculate how many visits a person can reasonably make in a day, including lunch breaks. Next year we intend to include traffic information into the route optimisation, so that companies can leverage this information in real time. In many cases road and motorway ramp closures for maintenance are also known in advance. Other enhancements to Route2GO for larger fleets are also planned for 2010. We are currently working with vehicle tracking companies to allow them to integrate this solution right into their applications, which in some cases can automatically send jobs to the vehicles and when accepted, direct them through to car navigation without the driver having to do anything more.
