Gaming

The potential for spatial games is phenomenal. Location based solutions for web sites, mobile phones and other GPS enabled devices is growing.

Games ideas such as treasure hunts are ideally suited for this environment and present an exciting and novel way to launch new products and services.

Geo-caching has been around for a while. This is where people hide or bury an item and then provide the GPS co-ordinates so people can go and find that item. In some cases people take the item and leave something else in its place, which might be something like a book or a CD. It may have great value for education and helping people learn about their immediate or larger community.

With GPS enabled phones, PDA’s and game machines, it will become possible to play games with people you know or total strangers. In the USA, Pac Man style games have been launched where people compete against others in city streets. This type of game can also be brought down to a macro level such as a university campus.
